Duel Update May 8, 2008

Filed under: Uncategorized — jambrea @ 1:48 pm

Well it seems that the challenge will not be an official thing through Lyrical Press.  That is fine by me because I still plan on writing the story and submitting it by October.  :)  The challenge was given in good fun and I plan on keeping with the spirit of it.  I would say the challenge is a sucess because it got me thinking of a way to bring a bunch of genres together.  I just hope I can do it justice.  lol  I’ll try to keep you updated on my progress.  This story might go a little slow because I’m still working on my other one.  :)

Duel Idea May 7, 2008

Filed under: Uncategorized — jambrea @ 6:29 pm

So I have a title for the story I’m going to write for the duel.  Angel’s Demon.  I like the sound of it and I have an idea on what I want to do with the story.  I wrote the first paragraph.  I don’t know if I’ll keep it or not, but here is what I have so far.

Angel Monroe pulled up the bar and wiped a tear from her eye.  He isn’t worth the tears, she thought to herself.  She had to pull it together.  She had a gig tonight and as they say…the show must go on.  As Angel was pulling her guitar out of the back seat she felt the hair on the back of her neck stand up and a chill down her spine right before hands grasped her from behind and pulled her from the car.  She tried to struggle, but it was no use.  She felt the prick of a needle and then everything went black.

I Have Been Challenged to a Duel May 5, 2008

Filed under: Uncategorized — jambrea @ 4:34 pm

Well…a writing duel that is.  I moderate at the Joyfully Reviewed chat loop (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Chatting_with_Joyfully_Reviewed/ ) and Lyrical Press is having an opening party.  While chatting I asked an author this question:  “And these characters you are revisiting.. .will one of them be a horror/erotic/ paranormal/ scifi/romance with a good dose of comedy story?”  This was from an earlier conversation about cross genres.

His answer was: Hhmm… Do I detect a bit of a challenge here?

How about we both pick up the glove? I’ll write one if you do. Let’s keep the rules simple, while we’re at it.

#1 It must be a horror/erotic/ paranormal/ scifi/romance with a good dose of comedy

#2 At least 20k words

#3 We submit to Lyrical Press for publication

#4 If published, we check the sales figures after 90 days, to determine who won.

I have until October to submit!  This should be interesting.

Yep…I did it. May 3, 2008

The rules:

Tell seven random and/or interesting things about myself. Get five blog buddies to play, too and link to their blogs. Don’t forget to post the rules!

1. I just started reading m/m romance and I love them. I wasn’t too sure at first, but I read a book by the fabulous TA Chase and the rest is history. You can find his links on my side bar.

2. I wanted to be a journalist when I was younger, but I ended up working in Day Care and then went into admin work.

3. I loved the physical part of basic training for the Air Force, but now you couldn’t get me to run if you waved a candy bar in my face. :)

4. I’ve lost close to 40lbs all with out exercise. :) Now to lose more I’ll have to start working out. :(

5. My husband bought me a punching bag for our anniversary and I LOVE IT. (and no, it isn’t him lol)

6. I’m working on my first story and will be looking for a critique partner soon.

7. I went to high school with my husband and shared a class, but had no idea who he was. We met years later on line and the rest is history. :)

Teasing Part 2 April 30, 2008

Filed under: Reviews, Writers — jambrea @ 2:48 pm

I have learned that teasing is an art form and most authors have a way of doing it just right.  So I figured I would practice and what better way to practice then to talk about the contest I won to review an ARC on my blog.  The book isn’t due out until June and I can’t post my review until mid May, but I will tell you that I enjoy this author and her stories.  She has a great imagination and I’m so happy that she shares it with the rest of us.  I will also tell you that I’m enjoying the story and the hero is yummy, but that is all you get until my review.  I can’t wait until I get the go ahead to post it!!!

Out of Bounds

http://samhainpublishing.com/coming/out-of-bounds

First I want to say that I haven’t read a lot of m/m romances.  The few that I’ve read were ok and I enjoyed them, but mostly I read m/m/f or m/f/m when two men are involved.  Then I read Out of Bounds and OH MY GOODNESS, this book is AWESOME!!!  T.A. puts such feeling in the characters and they stayed with me after reading Out of Bounds.  This book is a keeper and I’m sure I’ll read it more than once.  I can’t wait for the other books in this series because T.A. is an author to watch.  I’ve attached a link above to the publishing site and you should go buy a copy today!  Here is a link to T.A.’s site and blog.

Bianca D’Arc-Resonance Mates April 12, 2008

Filed under: Reviews — jambrea @ 5:02 pm

I just read Hara’s Legacy by Bianca D’Arc and It is part of the Resonance Mates series. I had a chance to read the second book first and really liked it so I went back and read Hara’s Legacy. It was wonderful as are all the books I’ve read by Bianca D’Arc. She has such emotion in her writing and when you read Hara’s Legacy have a tissue handy. You’ll need it. This a series to watch.

Here is a blurb from Bianca’s site:

Hara’s Legacy

Resonance Mates Book One

The first in a series of stories set in a future Earth, where the survivors of humanity must teach the Earth’s new inhabitants what it means to be human… and to love.

The O’Hara brothers will do anything to protect the empathic woman they grew up with. But in a post-apocalyptic world, can they adapt to share her love if it’s the only way to keep them all safe? It’s a serious game of cowboys and aliens when three psychically gifted brothers try to protect the one fragile, empathic woman who holds all their hearts against a menacing alien threat.

Montana rancher Caleb O’Hara’s precognitive abilities saved his family from an alien attack that annihilated almost everyone on Earth. Now the aliens have come to study the remnants of humanity. Caleb knows the only way to ensure the safety of his young wife, Janie, and his beloved brothers, Justin and Mick, is to keep the family together on their isolated ranch.

All three O’Hara brothers love Jane. They grew up next door to the young, empathic beauty and she stole all their hearts at one time or another, though she married Caleb. Caleb foresees the shocking truth of what they have to do in order to survive, and Caleb’s visions never lie.

They’ll have to come to terms with a new world, and an evolving relationship, all while finding a way to protect two newborn babies who are innocent pawns in the aliens’ deadly game. Somehow, this one talented family holds the key for humanity’s survival on this new, conquered world called Earth.

And here are the links on her site. The first one is to her home page and the second one is to Hara’s Legacy.

WIP April 5, 2008

Filed under: Writing — jambrea @ 11:10 pm

Some one on one of my yahoo loops asked about a couple of my works in process so I thought I would take a minute to tell you want my books are about.  :)

Dreams:  This story is a paranormal romance about a woman who can’t control her power and a werewolf who could be her salvation

Rescue Me:  This story is a contemporary romance about two FBI agents and a kidnapping plot.

The Hunted:  This story is a futuristic romance about a scientist creating a weapon and the agent sent to protect him.

The Quest:  This is a paranormal romance about sisters trying to lift a curse put on their family centuries ago.  This one might turn into a series on all the sisters

The Taken:  This is a dark contemporary romance about a man who escaped a life in a cult that he was born into and a woman who was captured around the time he left.

Some of these stories are more fleshed out then others.  The one I’m really working on right now is Dreams.
